KADEWE - CASE STUDY

CLIENT: Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) Europe’s largest and most iconic department store was acquired by the Thai-owned Central Group in 2015 as part of a group purchase of three German stores.

BRIEF: CEO Vittorio Radice engaged Ford Consultancy to devise the strategy and implementation for complete redevelopment of the iconic KaDeWe Foodhall which occupies 8,000m² on the 6th floor.

We are currently also developing the food halls and restaurants in the other properties; Oberpollinger in Munich and Alsterhaus in Hamburg as part of a group-wide project.

STRATEGY: Due to the scale of the Foodhall operation and the need to maintain trading, the development  has been split into four ‘quadrants’ each working to a different design brief to create immersive and spectacular new food departments. The four new trading areas will each represent a different aspect of Berlin heritage and culture. Ford Consultancy have been responsible for selecting the design  team and ultimately delivering the new concept from its creation  through to trading over a period of 4 years.

RESULTS: The first new quadrant opened in December 2018 and has performed very strongly from day one. The second quadrant is currently under construction and will open in the Autumn of 2019. The entire 6th floor will be completed by 2021 and works to redevelop the 7th floor bar and restaurants offer is already underway.
